In addition to presenting top-quality dance performances and collaborative projects, Nimbus Dance Works is also dedicated to making dance relevant and engaging for audiences and communities across a broad demographic spectrum. To further that aim, Nimbus offers a wide variety of community programs that bring dance to audiences of various ages, incomes, and backgrounds.
Nimbus Dance Works maintains a strong community presence in Jersey City, where the company is based. Nimbus provides top-tier dance experiences to the youth of Jersey City through JC Grooves, a program that brings dance to more than 2,000 middle school students, and JC SummerMoves, an intensive summer program for high school students. In Newark, Nimbus created an after-school dance program at the La Casa de Don Pedro Community Center, and the Youth Arts Day brings together more than 200 youth from a variety of summer arts programs for a day of performances and workshops. Supported by partnerships with local institutions such as the Jersey City Board of Education, New Jersey City University, and the Newark Museum, these collaborations between underserved youth and dance professionals are unique outlets for self-expression and growth.
Nimbus Dance Works’ repertory includes several dance works designed to involve members of the community as a way of bridging the gap between professional dancers and audience members. Several of these are part of Nimbus’ ARC (Art Reaching Communities) program, which brings makes dance performances available to students and senior citizens from all parts of Hudson County.
Finally, Nimbus offers customized classes and workshops, as well as educational performances, to students, adults, and seniors of all backgrounds and levels of experience.
